Book Review: Love Amid the Ashes

Love Amid the Ashes: A Novel

An epic story of love and forgiveness, suffering and restoration
When her beloved grandfather Isaac dies, Dinah must follow his final command: travel to Job's household to marry his son. After Job's world comes crashing down, Dinah finds herself drawn to this great man brought low. What will she risk to fight for his survival?
Mesu Andrews weaves an emotional and stirring account of Job and Dinah. Love Amid the Ashes breathes life, romance, and passion into the classic biblical story of suffering and steadfast faith.
"In Love Amid the Ashes, Mesu Andrews takes a biblical tale of great tragedy and skillfully weaves beauty and love amid the loss. Job's story brought vividly to life!"--Jill Eileen Smith, bestselling author of Michal and Abigail
"Mesu Andrews has skillfully brought the Old Testament story of Job to life in Love Amid the Ashes. Throughout this book she explains Job's faithful adherence to studying the teachings of El Shaddai. Then she creatively reveals how those principles are demonstrated by his interaction with Dinah. You will be moved to tears as the characters reflect the mysterious role suffering plays in our faith. If you enjoy a story that includes a powerful plot, romantic passion, and biblical truth, read this book!"--Carol Kent, speaker and author of between a Rock and a Grace Place

Wow.....loved this book.  I have read several different books based on Bible stories lately, all from different authors and Love Amid the Ashes was everything I hoped for.  I loved reading about Job, learning more about him and the fact that Mesu was able to take a story from the Bible and turn it into a novel while keeping true to the Bible is simply amazing to me.

The story begins with a time chart which was extremely helpful to me, I also enjoyed the different Bible verses at the beginning of each chapter.  As I read this story I could feel the pain that Dinah felt her entire life and the great love she had despite her cruel treatment.  I simply loved her interactions with her young maid, she showed her so much kindness, but as you will learn, Dinah had a very kind soul.

Job, he was one who could so easily be disliked, yet his character also showed much compassion and love, how he could survive a wife like Sitis I do not know, this shows how great his spirit was, as for Sitis, her life took quite an unexpected turn which only goes to show us that we cannot take our happiness nor our life as we know it for granted.  As the drama unfolds in this book it keeps you turning the pages as you wait to see what will happen to the great city of UZ and those living within it's walls.

I cannot wait to see Mesu Andrews' next book!

**I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for review from Revell a Division of Baker Publishing.
