Book Review: Enjoy Every Sandwich

About the book:
Be grateful for something every day, and remember to live fully, love well, and enjoy every moment.

Dr. Lee Lipsenthal worked with Dr. Dean Ornish at the famed Preventive Medicine Research Institute. As medical director of the Institute, he helped thousands of patients to overcome their fear of pain and death and to embrace living life with joy every day. In his own life, happily married and the proud father of two remarkable children, Lee was similarly committed to living life fully and gratefully each day.

The power of these beliefs was tested in July 2009, when Lee was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. As Lee and his wife, Kathy, navigated his illness and treatment over the past two years, Lee discovered that he did not fear death. Instead of fearing the future, he took the time to practice gratitude, connect with his loved ones, and make every attempt to live a full life with each breath. Enjoy Every Sandwich is Lee’s lasting gift to his family, his friends, his colleagues and to readers.

Lee died on Tuesday, September 20. It is now our honor to spread Lee's message with this special book

MY THOUGHTS
This is a wonderful book, sad, yet thought provoking.  What would you do if you found out you were going to die within a year or two?  Would you be depressed, give-up, live it up, or just continue to be yourself?  Would you be afraid?

I'm not sure how I would react, but in reading this book I can say the Lee was an extremely strong person and that it was an honor to read his book....even though sad, I enjoy every single page.  This is a book that I will enjoy reading over and over, as well as sharing with those I love.

Birthday Giveaway #3

This week is THE week, my birthday is on Thursday, we're going out to eat and I'm making myself a cake...that's right. When you decorate cakes you just can't do store bought...so after pleading with my family to NOT buy me a cake I found a new recipe to try out, I'll take photos and let you know how it turns out!

Enough of that...I'm sure you're waiting to find out what I'm giving away this week, I have books up for grabs and of you are going to win one, 1st winner gets first choice and so on!

These are very very gently read books that I have done reviews on and I have picked out some that I'm sure you'll enjoy. If I hit 100 entries I'll add a 3rd book to the list....and since it's my birthday week, I may just throw in another option along the way....it'll be a surprise, for every gift I add I'll pick a winner!

Here are your choices:

After two years of serving as a missionary in a remote area of South America, Daria Camfield has returned to the States to mourn her husband, reportedly killed while providing medical aid to a neighboring Colombian village.

One family discovers how God can redeem any tragedy.

At first, Daria finds comfort only in the daughter born to her after Nate’s tragic death. As she begins to heal, she also finds a listening ear and a tender heart in her new boss, veterinarian Colson Hunter. Determined to move forward with life, Daria ignores the still small voice calling her to wait and accepts Cole’s marriage proposal. But after the wedding, Daria’s new dream life turns into a nightmare with the arrival of an unbelievable telegram: "Nathan Camfield found alive. Flying into K.C. Int’l. via Bogota…"
Now two men have the right to her daughter, her life, and her love. Will Daria return to her beloved first husband, abandoning Cole? Or will she reject Nate and choose the only man her daughter has ever called "Daddy"--a man she has come to cherish with all her heart?

***************************************************

Marnie Wittier has life just where she wants it. Quiet. Peaceful. No drama. A long way away from her past. In the privacy of her home, she fills a box with slips of paper, scribbled with her regrets, sins, and sorrows. But that’s nobody else’s business. Her bookstore/coffee shop patrons, her employees, her friends from church—they all think she’s the very model of compassion and kindness.

Then Marnie’s past creeps into her present when her estranged sister dies and makes Marnie guardian of her fifteen-year-old son—a boy Marnie never knew existed. And when Emmit arrives, she discovers he has Down syndrome—and that she’s woefully unprepared to care for him. What’s worse, she has to deal with Taylor Cole, her sister’s attorney, a man Marnie once loved—and abandoned.
As Emmit (and Taylor) work their way into her heart, Marnie begins to heal. But when pieces of her dismal past surface again, she must at last face the scripts of paper in her box, all the regrets and sorrows. Can she do it? Or will she run again?

Book Review: Blue Skies Tomorrow

Blue Skies Tomorrow: A Novel (Wings of Glory)
ABOUT THE BOOK (Back Cover)
When her husband becomes a casualty of the war in the Pacific, Helen Carlisle throws herself into volunteering for the war effort to conceal her feelings.  But keeping up appearances as the grieving widow of a hometown hero is taking its toll.  Soon something is going to give.

Lt. Raymond Novak prefers the pulpit to the cockpit.  His statesided job training B-17 pilots allows him the luxury of a personal life - and a convenient excuse to ignore his deepest fear.  When the beautiful Helen catches his eye and captures his heart, he is determined to win her hand.

But when Ray and Helen are called upon to step out in faith and put their reputations and their lives on the line, can they meet the challenges that face them?  And can their young love survive until blue skies return?

Filled with drama, daring, and all the romance of the WWII era, Blue Skies Tomorrow is the captivating final book in the popular Wings of Glory Series.

MY THOUGHTS
I have loved this series and am sad to see it come to an end, this is a stand a lone story with a twist to the plot that made me feel anger down to the tips of my toes, but that was a good thing!  I enjoy the unexpected in a book, otherwise it can tend to lolly gag around, and this book was entertaining the entire way through.  Ray has to endure quite a bit to find his true self and to feel worthy and Helen has to endure a lot of pain before she can free herself of the demons in her past, together they make a strong and lovable couple.
If you have enjoyed the other books in this series I think you'll like this book as well.  If you haven't read any of them yet, what are you waiting for?!!!

*I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for review from Litfuse Publishing

To celebrate the release of Blue Skies Tomorrow, the final installment of the Wings of Glory series, Sarah is giving one lucky winner A Vintage Kindle Prize Package!

Carmex Review and Giveaway!

As summer draws to an end I think it's time to do another giveaway! I know, summer's not over quite yet but it sure feels like it when you walk into a store and see all of the delicious fall clothing, it feel like it when the sun sinks lower in the day and it most definitely feels like it because our State Fair is just a week away and then school begins!
https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBJ31vPpVw8KHRIcw52hDPTsjwVNeK_LQQ5YQmQddfioZEensiYf4-gUghN-zU6bmCv210ADZu_4tPZGfBfas8bN_xE16_yYNYr31pRdo2JYhqHsYJ6hWwi1H6Jhkz7gFWuHWFkp2Gmaw/s1600/5878311034_c8b10374ca_m.jpg
I received a great gift from Carmex, and I get to pass along the same gift to one of my lucky readers, but first, let me tell you about the product!

I received:
1 Carmex Lime Twist click stick
1 Carmex Vanilla click stick
1 Picnic blanket

I love love love the picnic blanket, it has a nice backing which keeps the blanket from getting wet if you're on damp ground and the top side has fun stripes on it, and the cloth is quite soft and comfy...I know, I napped on it while at the beach!  The picnic blanket rolls up nicely and when all is said and done you can carry it away with the nice little carry handle and then, you get to stick your Carmex  products into the handy zippered pocket which is attached to the blanket!

As for the Lime and Vanilla click sticks, I love them both, especially since they have an SPF of 15...I have a tendency to burn my lips.  The lime is not too strong and has a nice little kick to it, the Vanilla has a very soft flavor.  I think of the Lime as a summer flavor and the Vanilla more fall/wintery!  The Carmex keeps my lips nice and soft, kept them from getting burned at the beach and all in all I really love the entire set that I received for review!

How would you like to win your own Picnic Blanket, Lime Twist Click Stick and Vanilla Click Stick?

Well....if you do, here's what you need to do: (USA only)

Book Review and Giveaway!!! Johnny One-Eye

ABOUT THE BOOK

Johnny One-Eye: A Tale of the American Revolution
by Jerome Charyn

"A rollicking tale." --Stacy Schiff, New York Times Book Review, Editors' Choice

Johnny One-Eye is bringing about the rediscovery of one of the most "singular and remarkable [careers] in American literature" (Jonathan Yardley, Washington Post Book World). In this picaresque tour de force that reanimates Revolutionary Manhattan through the story of double agent John Stocking, the bastard son of a whorehouse madam and possibly George Washington, Jerome Charyn has given us one of the most memorable historical novels in years. As Johnny seeks to unlock the mystery of his birth and grapples with his allegiances, he falls in love with Clara, a gorgeous, green-eyed octoroon, the most coveted harlot of Gertrude's house. The wild parade of characters he encounters includes Benedict Arnold, the Howe brothers, "Sir Billy" and "Black Dick," and a manipulative Alexander Hamilton.

Not since John Barth's The Sotweed Factor and Gore Vidal's Burr has a novel so dramatically re-created America's historical beginnings. Reading group guide included.

MY THOUGHTS:
The main character takes you along on his journey through war, you battle side by side with Johnny and learn quite a bit of history along the way.  This is a very entertaining book and those of you who love history will want to read Johnny One-Eye.

A book as entertaining as this one is a great way to learn a little more history, it's too bad that all lessons are not this entertaining there are plenty of twists and turns in the plot to keep you on your toes, a little romance thrown in on the side and in the midst of it all you'll even learn more about George Washington!

This really is an incredible book, one that will keep you reading and entertained the entire book through.  It's not one of my light summer reads, but it is one you won't want to miss!

.....and now here's your chance to win a copy of this fabulous book!  USA only.

TheraBreath Review and Lozenge Giveaway! EXTENDED

Have you heard of TheraBreath Products? A few months back I had the opportunity to review their toothpaste, oral rinse and lozenges...and fell in love with them all!

Just recently I was asked to review the all new TheraBreath Probiotics and jumped at the chance to try some more of these wonderful products.

ABOUT PROBIOTICS
After six years of research and development with partners at BLIS Technologies and Otago University of New Zealand, TheraBreath is proud to announce the release of TheraBreath Multi Symptom Oral Care Probiotics, the first probiotic product developed with BLIS K12 and M18 probiotic strains to effectively target hostile bacteria in the oral cavity and throat. With benefits ranging from helping to
relieve inner ear infections and sore throats to helping to prevent cavities, biofilm, and tooth staining the effects of this product on the oral health of the nation will be substantial and long lasting.

Probiotics have gained increasing popularity in the U.S. in recent years with applications primarily targeting non-specific digestive health. TheraBreath Multi Symptom Oral Care Probiotics are part of a new generation of probiotics that are far more sophisticated in terms of their benefits. The BLIS probiotic strains used in this new TheraBreath product were discovered to be naturally occuring in
the oral cavities of a very small percentage of children who showed a natural resistance to cavities, sore throats, ear aches and bad breath. What is remarkable about the BLIS strains is that they selectively target hostile bacteria responsible for various oral cavity related illnesses while allowing beneficial oral flora to remain intact. This prevents comprimising your body’s natural immunity to disease, which can sometimes happen after antiobiotic treatments.

MY THOUGHTS:
I love the Multi-Symptom Probiotic Oral Health Care, it was a bit putsy to use, you need to dissolve a packet of powder, swish it around, then gargle as well, but WOW it leaves you feeling fresh and clean. I just had a dentist visit last week and they asked about my products, when I told them I've been using Dr. Katz products they were quite impressed and said my teeth looked great...that's always pleasant to hear when sitting in the chair on an incline at the dentist!

You are supposed to use the Probiotics for one week each month, I have not used it long enough to know of any long time effects but for now, my mouth feels clean, fresh, and healthy!

You can visit http://www.therabreath.com/probiotics/ for more information on the Multi Symptom Probiotic (and also to get some great coupons!)

I am going to give you the opportunity to win a box of the wonderful, amazing ThereBreath Lozenges...they come in a nifty self-dispensing box ready to use! Each lozenge is individually packaged for on the go fresh breath and are an instant cure for bad breath!
Here's what you need to do to win:  (USA Only this time)
-Leave a separate comment for each entry as well as your email address

Mandatory:
Head on over to the Therabreath site and tell me what other product you would like to try, be original here, don't just say what previous entrants said!!!

Apothica Review and $25 Giveaway!

Have you heard of Apothica?  They are my newest blog sponsor and I recently tried some of their awesome products with my sponsorship funds!  They have several lines to shop from, Apothica, SkinCareRX and Skinbotanica, and you receive 5% back in rewards points with your purchases!

Each quarter SkinCareRx offers a Beauty Cache that is simply amazing and at only $29.95 you can't beat it!
The cache came with everything you see pictured above, and yes, a $20 off coupon to use for future purchases.  While there are many different products in the cache, some are full sized, other are trial sized, but you definitely get a bang for your buck.

My all around favorite is the Epionce Lite Lytic Lotion for dry/sensitive to normal skin, a close second is the Pure Fiji hydrating body lotion; coconut infusion.  The Epinonce Lotion is extremely light and has a wonderful scent, it left my face feeling wonderfully soft, the Fiji lotion has a very light coconut scent and did wonders for my itchy dry skin.

All of the products I have tried in the cache have been excellent, the best way I can describe them is LIGHT, they're not greasy, the scents are not overbearing, and they all worked quite well.

http://images.apothica.com/xl_images/caldrea-stainless-steel-spray-lavender-pine.jpg

Another product I received was the Caldrea Stainless Steel Spray, that's right....Apothica also sells home items, cleaners and candles!  All of my appliances are stainless and I have the most difficult time finding a product I like, usually when I find one, it disappears from the store shelf never to be found again!

I love this product, it works extremely well, and leaves a nice lavender, pine scent, I'm anxious to try some of the additional cleaners in this line!

The three stores are linked for easy shopping, all goes into one cart, and there is free shipping on orders over $49.  What's even better is that you can speak with a Licensed Esthetician if you have any skin care concerns or questions.  I did call into customer service and they were wonderful, extremely helpful and welcoming.  Definitely a great shopping experience!

Also carried through Skincarerx is the PMD personal microderm and Kinerase! You'll hear more from me about the PMD soon!

WOULDN'T YOU JUST LOVE TO WIN $25 TO USE AT THESE STORES?

TheraBreath Review and Giveaway!

Have you ever had one of those days where your breath just wasn't what it should be? C'mon, we've all had those days, but with TheraBreath those days will be long forgotten!

Here's an excerpt taken from the Free Downloadable Bad Breath Bible:

The Bad Breath Bible
by Dr. Harold Katz

I started researching the truth about bad breath back in 1993 when my own teenage daughter complained that her friends offered gum and mints whenever her mouth became dry. At that time, the theory was that bad breath came from the digestive system (an unfortunate myth)which led to bogus capsules that were swallowed eagerly by the public but which provided no relief. Because of my experience as a dentist and my degree in Bacteriology (both from UCLA), I performed some basic tests which showed that the problem was bacterial in nature.
Further experimentation and clinical trials proved that oxygenating compounds, properly pH buffered (now known as TheraBreath) were by far the best way to battle the anaerobic bacteria that were at the heart of the problem. (More details on our formulas are found later on.)

A Bad Breath Bible does sound a bit funny, but you really should read it, bad breath is something no one wants yet everyone has at least sometime, and after trying the products below, I think Dr. Katz is onto something great!

For my review I received Fresh Breath Toothpaste.  At first I was rather unsure about the toothpaste, I'm so used to being hit with a blast of mint that this toothpaste seemed rather powerless.  The flavor is quite mild, but definitely works and ends up leaving you feel much more fresh than with your usual over powering mint toothpaste!  Also, interestingly enough, the packaging says to use a DRY toothbrush...WHAT?  Well, to do an honest review I followed the directions, wow, I can see why this is a cure for DRY mouth, no water needed!  The trick here is to solve the problem, not cover it up!

I also received a bottle of Fresh Breath Oral Rinse, wow....love the rinse!  With most rinses the minute it hits your mouth you feel as if you've eaten a torch, not the Fresh Breath Oral Rinse...what I liked about the rinse is that as you swoosh the rinse around and gargle the mint taste seems to appear out of nowhere.  It's a gentle mint and while it doesn't blast you away, it definitely blasts away the germs and any bad taste left in your mouth from who knows what!

Last, but not least, I received a box of  Fresh Breath Lozenges.  These are fun, they come in the great box pictured below, dispenser and all!  What these little guys lack in size they make up for in power and taste.  WOW, these are a keeper.  Minty with a touch of orange, each mint is individually wrapped so they're perfect for putting in your pocket or purse.  Great for those moments when you simply cannot use a
toothbrush or gargle mouth wash!
The bottom line is that each one of these items alone leave you with fresh breath, but when you put all 3 of them together, they pack a punch!  You won't be disappointed, head on over to the website, sign up for the Daily Deal, download the Bad Breath Bible, take an online Breath Test or just look around!

**Thanks to TheraBreath I received complimentary products in exchange for an honest review, I was not in any other way compensated for my thoughts, giveaway is compliments of TheraBreath as well.

GIVEAWAY #1

For my first giveaway of the week I would like to introduce you to Deanna Jewel and her book Never Surrender!

If I were to receive a gift in my stocking, nothing would make me happier than a book and here's your chance to win an Autographed copy of Never Surrender by Deanna Jewel!!!

BOOK REVIEW:
Never Surrender is a story that took me by surprise!  The twist in this story keeps you waiting throughout the entire book, not just waiting, but waiting on edge.  Now, I have always loved Native American stories, but this one tops my list, as Kate travels West to find the location of a dream that has been with her for years.  She has dreamed of a warrior, mountains and a stream, over and over and to such extent that she fills she must follow her dream.

Arriving in a small western town Kate encounters a man, a man that makes her heart race, and when she learns of ancient petroglyphs she accepts a ride from the very stranger that definitely stirred a reaction.  Suddenly Kate is at the petroglyphs, she hits her head and that's when everything seems to go a bit crazy.  Kate is smack dab in the middle of an all out Indian war, and abducted, hoping to wake from her dream she soon finds that she has traveled back in time.  The story gets more and more interesting as Kate lives with the very man who saved her from her abductor and that's where I'm going to leave you hanging....

Deanna Jewel has created a jem with her first book, Never Surrender and it is a book that I would gladly put under the tree as a gift for some very lucky person!
