Easter is literally around the corner, have you knit up an Easter cloth? There's still time! I found a quick, cute and easy pattern to share with you over at the Dishcloth Pattern blog.

There are quite a few free patterns over there, so go on and check them out!!!

hmmmm....wonder if I'll have time to knit this up?  I think I'll give it a try, would be a great little gift to give the host of our Easter dinner.

Amazing Knit Scarf

Have any of you seen this photo?  I love it, someone knitted this 50yd scarf and placed it on a Pier, it depicts all of the different Olympic events, quite incredible if you ask me!  The knitter is unknown.  To read the story go HERE.

Time To Knit

It's been awhile since I've done a knitting post, I've been so busy this winter that I've hardly knitted a thing.....not even on my long plane trip to Puerto Rico, now that is SAD! A friend asked me to find her a summer weight sweater pattern, so that got me in the mood, she wants easy, short-sleeved and a pull-over. In this search I'm finding a lot I like for myself, such as:
Found on Ravelry

I am really liking this one from Berroco

I found all of these on Ravelry and they are all free patterns, I have to stop looking or I'll have too big of a wish list!

For my friend, I found a nice simple sweater!

Knitting with old t-shirts

It's always fun to try something new when knitting...to mix it up a bit!  I took a bunch of old t-shirts and cut them into strips and then knotted the strips together, once the strips were all knotted together I rolled them up into a ball and made a nice little rug! I love this rug, it fits perfectly under my laundry basket to keep my wood floor from getting scratched. A larger rug would be perfect for in the bathroom. It is very plush. I taught a 4H'er how to do this and she used bright colored t-shirts, her rug is adorable and won a ribbon at the county fair!

It really doesn't matter how wide you cut the strips, as long as you keep them consistent, I think I used a size 13 needles. Next I would like to try something with all of the twine we have from hay bales!  Any ideas?

Knitting For Charity

Just today I received a link for a great knitting charity and thought I'd share it with you. Sometimes I knit just to knit, just to keep my fingers happy, but there are times when I actually get tired of knitting washcloths....they're my knit just to knit items!

If you're in the mood to knit up some baby hats check out Cure.org/knit and see if you can't help them out in some small way! To learn more watch the video below:

If you already knit for charity, who do you knit for?  What do you knit?  I'd love to hear from you!

'Tis the Season for Knitting

I have been a bad knitter lately, my daughter got her drivers license this Spring, so I've had a lot less driving around to do, a lot less sitting around to do during 4H events...which in turn meant a lot less time to fill with knitting, a sad turn of events whichever way you look at it!

Now that it's cold out, I'm getting back into my knitting...it's about time, after all...this is not just a reading, review blog, it's supposed to be about knitting as well!

Here's a dishcloth I just finished up for a gift exchange, I really love this pattern and the color as well, I truly hated to give it up, it was a very simple and fast cloth to knit up.

The pattern is Leaf Lace Washcloth and can be found on Ravelry HERE,

..And I'm almost finished knitting this scarf for my mom...I really like the scarf, but knitting a scarf YUCK, I seriously do NOT like to knit scarves!  This pattern was not so fast to knit up and at times I thought it resembled a big alligator, but I do like it, and once I get it blocked the pattern will really POP!

This pattern is also on Ravelry HERE
...and this is what it will look like when it's finished and blocked...hmmm, I'm kind of liking this green version, maybe in a summer weight yarn, and love the flowers too!

...and yes, I realize my photography is dismal at best, I really need to work on that (frequently told so by my daughter as well as my self!)  I'm sure you'll enjoy the photos on Ravelry much more!

Halloween Knitting Fun

Photo taken from One Crafty Mama's blog, link below
Halloween is right around the corner, are you ready to decorate? I have been slacking in the knitting department and I promise to do better, I'm going to begin with a great dish cloth pattern that I found over at One Crafty Mama, you can get the pattern on her blog, HERE.  Go on over and visit Kelly/One Crafty Mama!

I love the green and it's such a cute spider, this project is going to top my dish cloth 'waiting to happen' pile!  I just started a cloth today during the State Archery competition my kids are in, so I have to finish that one first!  Do you have any great fall knitting/crochet or anything else patterns?  Feel free to share links/photos/patterns, etc!

Knittng an Ugly!

This week I have knitted a couple of 'uglies'....now I'm quite sure you're wondering what on Earth I'm talking about and why on Earth would I want to knit an ugly....good question!

I belong to a few yahoo knitting groups, and a few weeks ago received an email saying we were going to do an 'ugly' exchange. Basically you take a bunch of odds and ends and knit away until you feel that you have reached your goal of a very ugly something! Now, believe me, this is not as easy as it sounds.

Generally when you knit you want your finished product to look nice, you tuck in ends, you definitely have a plan and you most certainly don't make mistakes on purpose!

This week my group has also been doing an ugly knit-a-long and my blog is quite ugly, it leaves me to wonder what one does with 'uglies'? I'm thinking gag gift, sew a bunch together for a big ole ugly blanket! Whatever the use, it's a great way to use up bits and pieces of yarn and a good way to practice new stitches, or a great
exercise in not having to make everything perfect!

Knitting and Sewing Fun!

I thought I'd share a couple of my recent projects with you!  I made the cute little pincushion last night, it's perfect for using up scrap material, and the flower cloth is one that I have been working on this past week!  All in all I was pretty happy with the results.  The flower cloth looked a bit like a blob until I blocked it!

Sockupied Emag Review

When I was asked to review the Sockupied Emag, I jumped at the chance! I have never read an Emag before and it was quite the experience! You can purchase Sockupied through the Interweave site HERE

Once you've purchased the Emag you get a download link, it did take about 2 hours to download which surprised me, but no big deal since I could still use my computer during the download...the only problem here was being patient.....I wanted to read it NOW!

About the Emag:  It was/it awesome, I now have the mag icon on my screen so I can access it at any time.  The Emag itself is amazing.  Have you watched the Harry Potter movies?  If so, you've seen the newspaper that has talking/moving people in it, well, that 's the best way to describe the Sockupied Emag!  As you go through the pages there are several tabs which you can click on and watch videos, which is pretty neat.  The magazine is also full of great content, I have knit a few socks....never an actual pair since I'm never that happy with my results...Sockupied has a lot of helpful info. which includes 5 patterns and directions to knit a toe-up or toe-down sock.  A little fun is at the end of the Emag, where you can design your own argyle sock by clicking on different colors until you have the sock you like!

Now, if you're like me and never tried an Emag before, you won't be disappointed.  I wasn't sure if I'd like the fact that I couldn't hold it in my hands, but it was great and I think I'll be more inclined to open up the mag while sitting at the computer for a quick browse through than I would be if it were sitting in a pile somewhere in my house.

Interweave offers several different Emags, so go on over and check them out HERE!

**Special thanks to Jaime over at Interweave for the review copy of Sockupied, I was not compensated in any other way for my opinion.

Leaf Border Cloth

Sometimes you just need to answer the call to knit something fun, different, and actually pay for a pattern!

I found this pattern and fell in love, today I finished up this little work of art, it's supposed to be a dishcloth, but I think it's calling is more in the line of a plant doily...what do you think?!  I love this pattern!

Cup Cake Face Cloth

Just finished knitting a cute little Cup Cake Face cloth, I think more of these are in my future, what a great way to use up those partial yarn balls. This is a pattern by Carissa Bonham, you can visit her blog here, and she also has the pattern on Ravelry.

Cozy Knit Hat

My daughter has been wanting an ear flap hat....I recently purchased Boutique Knits, by Laura Irwin and it had the perfect pattern! Many perfect patterns actually, but I knit up the hat and it turned out simply adorable. All said and done the hat took me under 3 hours from start to finish!

You can tie the ear flaps up with the ribbon!

....or leave them down!
Now that spring seems to be on its way, I guess this little hat will be waiting until next fall for use, I'm quite certain I"ll be knitting up more of these cuties!

Knit Fish Tawashi

Do you know what a Tawashi is? Well, simply said, it's a Japanese scrubber, otherwise known as a very cute dishcloth which is either hand knit or crocheted! Since I stink at crocheting we'll stick with the knit version! I love knitting these little guys, I've been stuck on fish, but there are many other patterns out there that I'm going to try!

If you'd like the pattern go on over to Knitting Knonsense, you can also double these little guys up to make a mitt!

Dishcloth Challenge: Cloth 4 of 24

I am moving right along with my monthly dishcloth challenge and keeping on track! I like this cloth, but it's a little on the big side for me. The colors remind me of Sherbet ice cream, what do you think?! As always, I got this pattern from my monthly dishcloth yahoo group!

Knit Kimono

I found this pattern on the Lion Brand website, it used chunky yarn and only took a couple of hours to knit up! What a fun, little project and the yarn is oh so soft!  Wouldn't this be cute with a frilly little skirt, or with a cute pair of ruffly bottoms?  I have a pattern in mind, can't wait to sew it up and show you!

Dishcloth Challenge: Cloth 2:24 and 3:24

I have finally taken some photos of my monthly dishcloth knitting challenges! I'm about to begin cloth #4 so I thought I really should post an update on the other 2! So far I'm keeping on track but I have such terrible knitting A.D.D that I just can't knit only 1 thing at a time! This week I made a baby kimono, 2 fish baby cloths and I'm in the middle of a baby big and have started a pair of lacy beaded fingerless mitts as well as a black/silver scarf...so you see, A.D.D at it's best! What's on your needles?

I'll post photos of my other projects soon!

Knit Dishcloth: 1 of 24

Well...I know my blog is supposed to be about Knits, Reads and Reviews but I've been a bit lacking in the knitting department. I belong to a few yahoo knitting groups, one of them put out 2 dishcloth patterns per month, it's a year long challenge to see who many in the group actually knit all 24 cloths. I decided that I'm going to do better this year, well, that won't be difficult since I didn't really follow the group that well last year!

But enough about that and on with the photo of Dishcloth #1 in the challenge!

I'm pretty happy with it, it's quite a bit bigger than I like my cloths to be and I wish the Happy 2011 showed up a little better in the middle...but hey, I'm using it to wash dishes, right?!
