Book Review: She Walks in Beauty, by Siri Mitchell

She Walks in Beauty by Siri Mitchell is a story about the coming out of a young girl who is not quite prepared for the event, nor does she care to EVER debut!  Young Clara, just turned 17 thought she had another year to prepare for her debut, that is until her Aunt caught wind of a highly esteemed eligible bachelor coming to town for the season.

As the flurry of preparations begins Clara finds herself strangled in a corset, unable to sleep, unable to eat, not only are her movements restricted but she has to learn to dance, how to cut people, which utensils to use when, everything but what she'd truly like to learn, her scholarly studies.

As Clara continues through her debut she begins to learn details about her father and is not quite sure what to think, her father and aunt's goal is to have her marry the heir to the De Vries fortune, problem is, Clara doesn't love him, she loves his brother, will family wishes and friendship get in the way of true love, or will Clara persevere until she wins the man she loves?

This was a wonderful story about a young girls life in the time of debut and fortune.  This could have been a typical love story, but it was filled with humor and twists and turns to keep me interested until the very end.  I liked how Siri Mitchell kept Clara likable, instead of turning her into a snooty debutante!  What a wonderful summer read!
