Book Review and Giveaway: Jenny of L'Anse Bay

Donna and Fred Winters

Fred and Donna Winters launched the Great Lakes Romances® series in February 1989.  Donna had been writing for Christian publishers with three books in print when the Christian romance market took a downturn. After much research and prayer, Fred and Donna decided to publish Mackinac, the first title in the series, to see how readers would respond.  Sales took off and the series has been expanding for more than twenty years.

To read more about Donna visit Great Lake Romances!

Donna let me choose which of her books I would like to review, it was not an easy choice!  Here is the description off the back cover of the book:

Out of the ashes of her life rises a new mission...a raging fire destroys more than Jennifer Crawford's home; it also burns a black hole into her future.  To soothe Jennifer's resentful spirit, her parents send her on a trip with their pastor and his wife to the Indian Mission at L'Anse Bay.

There, in the wilderness of Michigan's upper peninsula, Jennifer soon moves from tourist to teacher as she takes over the education of the young Ojibway Indians.  Without knowing their language, she must teach them English.  Without knowing their customs, she must line in harmony with them.

Meanwhile, Hawk, son of the Ojibway chief, teaches Jennifer the ways of his tribe.  Often discouraged by seemingly insurmountable cultural barriers, Jennifer must also battle danger, death, and the fears that threaten to come between her and the man she loves.

Now, just reading the back cover makes me want to read this book all over again!  I loved this book, so much that I couldn't stop reading and spent half the night reading instead of sleeping!  Jenny is a very brave woman and gets a lot of her strength from her mom, as well as God.  After her home burns to the ground and left with nothing her and her mother venture in a canoe to an unknown place, a place like they've never been to.  Once at the mission Jenny's life changes forever and as you follow her on her journey you become quite attached to her as she faces some pretty unusual situations!  This is a wonderful Historical Romance and I highly recommend it!
