Book Review

Book: "Forward From Here"
Author: Reeve Lindberg

In the book, Forward From Here, Reeve Lindberg takes you on a journey towards the later years of life. This journey is humorous at times but yet does not make light of feelings that people can have as they get older. The first chapter is titled, "Hippies in the Hot Tub", this title alone makes you chuckle as well as Reeve's encounters with Turtles, dealings with her children, and her thoughts on drugs! Not only does Reeve open your eyes to life after 60, but her story can teach younger generations how to have a refreshing look at life as well. In Reeve's perspective it not what life deals you, it is how you deal with it, finding pockets of humor in the unthinkable.

I truly enjoyed this book. I have not yet even begun to think about turning 60, so I was not sure if I would be able to relate to this book. As I read through the book so many of the thoughts hit home. Reeve writes about things that can happen at any stage in life and while reading the book it made me realize yet again that it's our attitude which makes a difference. Not only would I recommend this book to people of any age in adulthood, but I will read it again!

Review: "Handle With Care"

Book: "Handle With Care"
Author: Jodi Picoult

Handle with care by Jodi Picoult takes you through a journey of emotions, from tears of sadness to tears of joy. Can you love too much and when isn't love enough, these are questions you ask as you learn about Willow's Osteogenesis Imperfecta and Charlotte’s decision to sue for Malpractice. There is a fine line of right and wrong and crossing it can cause irreparable hurt as Charlotte’s marriage crumbles, her teenage daughter loses her identity and her best friend is lost forever. There are points in the story that will make you cheer and others that will make you wonder what this family is thinking. The final twist to this story is one that will grip you to your very soul.

This was a superb story, I could not put this book down, I felt the pain and the love of Charlotte, Sean, Amelia and Willow. To have the strength that this family had is astounding, as well as law suit that almost tore this family apart. This truly is a story that teaches love at all costs, I highly recommend this book.

Review: Memorial

Book: "Memorial"
Author: Bruce Wagner

Memorial is a book that makes you to stop and take a deep breath. Each of the four main characters, Marj, Joan, Chess and Ray, are family members with a crisis on their hands. As the book evolves so do the characters, and as we learn more about their lives they begin to grow closer in their relationships with each other. Joan is an architect striving for greatness, Chess seems to float in and out of reality, Marj and Ray are the divorced parents, Ray having left the family years ago. As each family member comes to a breaking point in their particular crisis wealth is bestowed upon them but will newfound wealth bring happiness or further discontent in their lives?

This was a difficult book for me to read, the style of writing left me out of breath and feeling as though something was not quite right. The author's use of strong language made it difficult for me to relate to the characters and be drawn into the story. The humor in this book was not quite what I am used to reading.
